Fellowship at GPMC

Grosse Pointe Memorial Church members don't just worship and work together- we enjoy playing together. From an active youth program to a seniors group, Presbyterians of all ages have opportunities to enjoy each other's company. Beyond the opportunities included in other areas of our church life, the following fellowship opportunities are always open for more members.

communionWe are once again hosting a series of home communions as part of our 2010 season of Lent. Members of the church have offered their homes for potluck dinners of 8 to 18, some with children and some without. A minister from the church will be part of each dinner and lead the communion service.  This practice connects us with the earliest Christians who did not have dedicated worship spaces but rather celebrated the Lord's Table around their own dinner tables. Signups for the dinners begin on Sunday, February 14 (in the reception area) and the first dinners are the first week of March.

This fall we launched a series of Koinonia (Greek for fellowship) groups.  Organized around a variety of demographics, these groups are a chance for members of a large church to know the fellowship of a small group setting.

The Koinonia groups will meet at various times of the week. People will sign up for a group that fits their interests and schedule.  We also are looking for facilitors for these groups. The facilitator would simply call everyone already signed up for their group using the list provided by Parish Life and invite them to the first meeting. If the group were to meet in members’ homes, they would host the first meeting. After that, they keep the contact list. That’s about it.

Parish Life has come up with some suggestions for these small groups:
60: The New Forty: for anyone over 60
Sunday Munch Bunch: pot luck after church
Old Enough to Know Better: singles over 50
Feeding the Flock: a tour of local restaurants.
Saints and Sinners: book club with food.
Party Like an Apostle: member under the age of 35
Kids R Us: Parents of young children.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Parish Life wants to get you thinking about the small group you would like to start.

OWLS: Older, Wiser, Learning still - is for our senior members and meets over lunch on the second Thursday of each month.

pwPresbyterian Women of GPMC is one of our most active fellowship groups. The most frequent opportunities to join this group come in weekly sewing and knitting occasions (every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am – 1:30pm), monthly Bible study (2nd Tuesday of the month from 7:30-9:00pm), Wednesday morning Bible studies (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.) and a monthly lunch (2nd Wednesday of each month, from 12-1:30pm) that features an outside speaker.

Beginning October 7, we will have a twice a week Yoga exercise class for seniors. Fromyoga 10:00 – 11:00am on Tuesdays and Fridays, this $5 a session activity offers the chance to improve one's physical health and enjoy more fellowship with other seniors in the church.

There is a weekly Ecumenical Men's Breakfast at 7:30 on Fridays. This $6 breakfast features the chance to enjoy the company of other men in the community as well as to hear from a weekly religious speaker. View the Current Breakfast Schedule
