James Biery - Minister of Music and Organist  jbiery@gpmchurch.org

James BieryJim is the newest member of the GPMC staff, joining us in August 2010. He grew up in Nebraska and earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University. Before coming to Grosse Pointe, he directed music programs at Catholic cathedrals in Hartford, Connecticut, and St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a published composer with many pieces of organ and choral music sung and played in churches across the country. His wife, Marilyn, is also an accomplished organist, church musician, and published composer; in addition, she enjoys hymn text writing. Their daughter, Laura, is a sociology major at the University of Chicago, where she participates in the swim team. During those few moments when the Bierys are not thinking or talking about music, they enjoy good food and finding ways to burn calories outdoors.

Peter J. M. HenryA native Midwesterner from the Chicago area, Rev. Henry came to GPMC from the Princeton, New Jersey area in January 2007. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Peter holds the M.Div., Th.M., and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary.  Before coming to Grosse Pointe, Peter served churches in Charlotte, NC and Princeton, NJ. He is married to Shawn Samuelson Henry and they are parents to Atticus, Haven, and Whittier Henry. An avid reader, Peter is currently working on The Power and the Glory and The Irresistible Henry House. When not at work, Peter is most likely at home playing in the backyard with children, doing Legos in the basement, or out training for his next marathon and his first triathlon.

Diane HerndenI am a native Detroiter who has worked in area churches for the past 25 years. I have 2 delightful daughters and 5 beautiful granddaughters. When not working or spending time with family, I enjoy writing, antiquing and gardening. My favorite quote is "LORD, give me a healthy discontent for where I am currently so that I can leave my safe zone and move into the faith zone," by John Maxwell. Recent reading materials include "Let Your Life Speak" by Parker J. Palmer, "Getting Things Done" by David Allen and "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow.

Carol Beltz MarksCarol Beltz Marks was baptized at GPMC, went through the Christian Education program and confirmation at this amazing church. Carol attended Alma College and graduated from Wayne State University. She served Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church as Outreach Coordinator, Christian Education Director and Parish Visitor. She was called by Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and has been in pastoral ministry here for over 22 years. “This congregation has been an inspiration and an uplifting spiritual gift.” Her family, husband Rich, daughter and son in law Mary & Jeff Edwards, son & daughter in law, Mike & Caroline Marks and son Peter and five grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, Ally, Lucy and Charlie is a constant source of joy. If Carol is not at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, you can most likely find her enjoying family or playing with grandchildren.

Susan d'Olive Mozena - Coordinator of Adult Education smozena@gpmchurch.org

Susan d'Olive MozenaSusan has lived in Grosse Pointe since 1969, and joined GPMC in that year. She was ordained a Presbyterian minister in late 2009 at Memorial Church, after 30 years as a hospital administrator and health care executive.  She holds a bachelors degree from Mount Holyoke College, a masters degree in teaching from Northwestern University, a masters degree in health services administration from The University of Michigan, and a masters degree in divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary, through the cooperative program with Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit.  Rev. Mozena has completed clinical pastoral education (hospital chaplain training), and serves as chaplain of Oakwood Annapolis Hospital, in addition to her part-time role at GPMC. She loves to read, and is currently working her way through Philip Jenkins’ books on Christianity in the global south.  Susan’s husband, John, was confirmed in this church.  They have two grown children, John and Beth, both of whom are married, and they are blessed with three grandchildren.  Their greatest joy is spending time with the whole family together.

Lisa Turner - Director of Children's Ministries lturner@gpmchurch.org

Lisa TurnerLisa and her husband Scott have been members of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church for 19 years. Witnessing her own three children's faith grow here at Memorial, Lisa brings passion and enthusiasm to this ministry in the hope that other families may also experience the love of Jesus Christ in their lives. Lisa is currently enrolled in the Christian Education Certification program through the Presbyterian Church USA and much of her reading recently have been books such as "Rethinking the Children's Sacraments" by Elizabeth Caldwell for class. Another recent novel has been "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. In addition to her work with children, Lisa is committed to helping parents fulfill their calling as the primary Christian educator for their children.

Matthew Parker Wrzeszcz - Associate Pastor of Youth Ministry  mwrzeszcz@gpmchurch.org

Matthew Parker WrzeszczMatt joined the GPMC staff in August, 2009.  A native of the Chicago area, Matt returned to the Midwest after earning his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.  Matt is married to Jennifer, also a Presbyterian minister.  During seminary, Matt served as Director of Youth Ministry in Dutch Neck, NJ and as Assistant Christian Education Director of Trinity Episcopal Church in Princeton, NJ. His field education experience included a year abroad in Scotland.  Matt enjoys playing games, listening to music, camping and being with people. He also enjoys exploring lighthouses and was pleased to find that Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state.
