The Outreach Council’s mission is to show Christ’s love and compassion for our neighbors by helping with hunger, education, housing, health, and other needs. We strive to support this mission by allocating funds and calling all GPMC members to hands-on action.
Outreach
At GPMC, we take seriously God’s call to love our neighbors as ourselves. All year, our members nurture and work with local, national, and international partners. Some of our members volunteer directly with our partners, and others will regularly participate in one of our planned event days. We want every member (and friends of members) to know the joy of servant leadership. The Outreach Council works hard to plan activities to care for our community in significant, hands-on ways. The need is great, and helping hands are always welcome to help shine the light of Christ in the world. Especially if you haven’t joined us before, won’t you make a commitment this month to try one new thing? We promise you great joy.
International Partners: We support our international partners through prayer and funds. GPMC has relationships with churches and organizations around the world, including Cuba, Israel, the Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Malawi, Kenya, Liberia, and the Congo. Our prayers and funds are sent with our desire to make an impact in worldwide peace, health, education, and justice. Ask an Outreach member if you would like to know more about this ministry.
Local Community Partners: We work with many local organizations throughout the Metro Detroit area.

National General Mission: We donate funds to support the work of Church World Service, the Christmas Joy offering for the Presbyterian Church, and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
Adult and Youth Mission Trips: Mission is at the heart of who God is, it is at the heart of the church’s identity and reputation, and it is good not just for us but for the world. Like the Presbyterian Church USA, GPMC emphasizes mission and global engagement as a core part of its identity and ministry. This includes supporting global ecumenical liaisons, partnering with churches worldwide, and working to address global issues like poverty and injustice. The Outreach Council designates funds each year to help financially support members who wish to travel on a mission trip.
Hunger Offerings: The Outreach Council selects 12 local organizations each year as Hunger Offering recipients, but you decide how much each one will receive. How? Every dollar you contribute during the month goes directly to that highlighted partner.
Bonus: the Outreach Council will match that donation, up to $2,000 per month.
Collections: Every other month, Outreach offers an opportunity to donate items for specific collections to help our neighbors. Drives include drive-by food drives, sock and underwear drives, hygiene kit supplies, cereal, school supplies, and Reverse Advent Calendar food boxes.
